Boyz II Men review by Aimee Sadler
On Friday 27th January 2012, Boyz II Men played Concorde 2. It was also the night that my mother and I turned into ridiculous screaming fan-girls. My mum and I don’t have all that much in common in terms of music taste, however Boyz II Men are different. They have this universal appeal (which has, rightly so, earned them many awards and much recognition) that can make just about anyone dance and tap their feet. 20 years since they first began performing they still have so much swagger and charm, and their voices have only improved with age. They sang some brilliant new tracks, a favourite of mine being ‘One Up For Love’ which is bouncy and upbeat and has great lyrics. Most importantly they performed their old classics, including ‘At The End of The Road’, ’Motown Philly’ and ‘I’ll Make Love To You’. It was during that song that they started handing out long stemmed red roses – my mum looked like she was going to cry with happiness when she was given one. They really are fantastic performers and put on an incredible show – cheesy dance moves and all. I’m so pleased that Boyz II Men are back, and it seems that they are better than ever.
Christina Perri review by Aimee Sadler
Christina Perri is, without a doubt, one to watch in 2012. Whilst her songs, at a first listen, seem to be about heartbreak, her energy and charisma light up the stage and give her lyrics a whole new meaning. I went to the gig expecting a solemn atmosphere, and yet I was pleasantly surprised by the upbeat feel of it. She spoke to the audience, grinned throughout, and made everyone feel like the only person she was playing to. It really does make a difference to the performance when the artist is clearly enjoying herself – never have I seen someone manage to smile their way through songs like Christina Perri. It genuinely made the audience feel appreciated, knowing that she was having as much fun as we were. The set was beautiful too – fairy lights and fresh white roses lined the stage, and her band was truly fantastic and incredibly talented. So she plays guitar, writes her own songs, plays piano, sings from the heart and can win over any audience. All in all, Christina Perri is one gifted lady.. And I really hope I see her play live again soon.
